A daily dose of God’s touch in a minute…

I would love to watch iron float again, how about you?

Physics, the science of how matter interacts describes the natural phenomenon. that Iron sinks in water because the density of iron is more than the density of water.

The Axe Head that Floated

The Book of Kings narrates a concern that a group of prophets who frequently met Elisha had.

The concern was that the place where they held their meetings was too small, so they wanted to build a bigger place using wood cut down from trees near the river Jordan.

They request Prophet Elisha to join them and begin cutting down trees.

When one of them was cutting a tree the axe head falls into the river.

The man was using a borrowed axe and is totally upset with the loss.

I would like to believe that an axe was a precious possession during those days, so this was a significant loss. And the loss was made more acute because he had lost something that belonged to someone else.

Now what would the prophet do?

Firstly, he wouldn’t be able to contribute his share towards the mission of building a bigger place.

Secondly, the Bible says `a borrower is a slave to the lender’, so this prophet would now be slave to the one he borrowed the axe from.

But thank God for anointing.

They had Elisha.

Not just an ordinary man, not even just another prophet but a man who had pursued a double anointing from God.

When the laws of Nature say something is impossible, God’s anointing says bring it on.

So Elisha cut a stick and threw it into the river where the axe head had fallen.

Whether the stick had to move with extra velocity and fit into the slit of the axe head or the piece of iron had to lose its natural state, whatever it was,  the anointing accomplished a perfect job.

The prophet got his lost resource back.

The anointing that Prophet Elisha carried superseded the law of Physics.

The anointing overrides any scientific explanation.

Thank God for His willingness to honour the audacious expression of faith from Elisha.

This teaches me that anointing is the key and we need to pursue anointing and faith like Elisha did.

I would like to believe that the story of this unique miracle is mentioned in the Bible as a reminder to us that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.

A reassuring revelation that we too have been given the privilege to find an answer for the seemingly impossible.

Whether its healing from sickness and pain, deliverance from depression, breaking free from financial lack and failure, or whatever else it may be that seems lost and hopeless, we can know and trust that God can do anything through the anointing that goes beyond scientific explanation.

Intense prayers, audacious faith, these are powerful weapons for spiritual warfare lent to us by God. They are borrowed and not our own. Only God’s anointing and might can sustain and bring out the miracle working competency of these weapons.

Think about it. If  something as heavy as Iron surrenders its natural tendency to sink in order to facilitate a miracle, I am sure that anything and everything that brings despair in our life will also submit to the anointing when God chooses to sharpen the weapons that He has lent us.

It’s time to come under the anointing of God.

I’ts time to see the iron float again.

Bible verse:

They went to the Jordan and began to cut down trees. As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron axhead fell into the water. “Oh no, my lord!” he cried out. “It was borrowed!”

The man of God asked, “Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float. “Lift it out,” he said. Then the man reached out his hand and took it.

Oh yes, our God is mightier than the mightiest. This was indeed one of the more intriguing portions of the scripture and there’s much to learn from it. Glad to read your lovely comment. Thanks for the encouragement.

Amen Carol. You are right. The Lord is at Work today just like He did during Elisha’s time, we just need to draw on that wonder working power in faith and being set apart.

Excellent insight! I am hopeful that we can all become more aware of the power that accompanies being a servant of God. The idea that the Holy Spirit also helped him to honor his vows and remain a bond servant only to Yahweh is a lot to take in

Thank you Pastor. Yes indeed, it was Elisha’s consecration, sanctification and being willing to forsake everything and pursue the anointing that was the secret of the awesome miracles that God allowed in and through his life and ministry. It is available to us, if we only believe. Look forward to stay in touch and draw inspiration from you too and serve the calling that God places on each of our hearts with more effectiveness and power.

I like that it shows that God cares about what’s important to us. An ax may not seem important, but getting it back was important to this man, so God allowed Elisha to do the miracle. Isn’t God amazing?
