A daily dose of God’s touch in a minute…

Are you facing an overwhelming situation?

On Sunday the 22nd of March 2020 the Government of India issued an India-wide Lock-down, Public Curfew and Social Distancing to curb the spread of the corona virus. It was a strange and uncertain situation. Fear was all around.

I was praying and as I read the book of 1 Samuel chapter 17, I realized how relevant the story of David and Goliath is in times such as these.

The passage describes that people were fearful of a giant called Goliath. Until  David showed up. He heard how the giant was threatening the people and causing fear and worry. David immediately decided to take the situation in his own hands.

Even King Saul suggested that Goliath was too big for a young boy like David to encounter. But David did not flinch. He offered his past credentials of killing a lion and a bear with his bare hands as tested proof that he could handle this monster too.

The story as we know ends with David conquering Goliath with just one targeted stone flung from his slingshot.

The cause: David’s trust and confidence in the Lord God Almighty.

The Bible testifies that God has not given us a spirit of fear but a spirit of Power, Love and sound mind.

Under the new testament, God has established an even better covenant with us through the blood of His Son Jesus shed on the cross. The blood of Jesus qualifies us to be partakers of the new covenant. This means that the spirit of power is now accessible to us through Jesus. And so, anyone who believes in Jesus can receive Holy Spirit Power to challenge the spirit of fear, not just in our own life, but also in the life of our loved ones, in overwhelming situations and in all areas of life.

Overcoming worry and fear is of such importance that Jesus preached it during His sermon on the mount. Jesus encouraged us that no matter what our challenge not to worry. As an example, He said to look at the birds and the flowers. They don’t’ worry, they don’t struggle, they are not afraid, and yet their needs are met, and they are protected because God is mindful of them.

Jesus asks us one question. If God can give attention to the well-being of birds and flowers, wouldn’t He care much more about us humans?

You may be going through Goliath like challenges. Fear Not. Even though things may seem overwhelming. Put your trust and hope in God.

In closing, let me also share that while I pondered over these things during the Lock-down, I was reminded of a time when God delivered me from the spirit of fear. I decided to put together a short video to share that experience.

I hope the video encourages you.

Be blessed.

Sophia

I have thought back to my week in North India and wondered if a lockdown has any way of happening in the tea gardens and small villages where I was. Are you there now? What is your experience?

Hello Pastor Pete: It’s nice hearing from you. Thanks for your encouragement. Yes the lockdown is total across India including small villages. But as you know village folk are more innocent, naive and at times ignorant so i’m not sure how they are responding to the situation. I’m not in a village side as I reside in the city. How’s the situation where you are at?

Hi Sophia I am glad to hear that you are doing well. Thanks for answering. We are in a small city
In Florida. Here the infection is pretty widespread but the deaths are much less than areas to our North. Maybe because we have a warmer climate similar to some of India. I pray that will be the case with you also. God bless and keep you safe 🙏

Hello Pastor Pete: You’re blessed and it is the fervent prayers and work from ministers like you that keeps people and places safe. Please continue to pray and remain steadfast. The Lord is working through this situation too and preparing for greater things ahead for His Kingdom to come. Will keep praying for you. I will be trying to upload videos based on God’s leading and would be happy if you could share them with your congregation. We are distant only in the physical realm, but in spirit we are closer. May your congregation, friends, community be blessed supernaturally with signs and wonders accompanying the preaching and teaching of the Word through your ministry in the days ahead. Amen

I love stories about the bold courageous forerunners of Christianity, such as David. There are so many riches in the Old Testament. Thanks for sharing this timeless truth.
