A daily dose of God’s touch in a minute…

Which side is the ‘other side’?

He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?”
“No,” they answered.
He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.
John 21 (New International Version)

The road not taken

It was one of those “all work and no pay” nights. The disciples had toiled all night only to end up Hungry. Disappointed. Tired. No fish either for themselves or for the Lord who showed up unexpectedly.
Observing their need the Master decided to impart an instruction “Cast the nets on the right side”.
‘What? We are more experienced in this trade than you Master! We have already done all that we know we should without success. The other side? ’These would have been the unspoken thoughts that ran through their minds on hearing the Lord’s instruction. And yet in obedience to the Master’s voice, they decided to try “the other side” strategy.
Peter, an experienced fisherman would have been amused but then it was the Lord’s instruction.
Later when the offer came “Simon Peter take care of my sheep” Peter’s reply could have been ‘no way’ if it came from anyone else; but negating the Master’s instruction was hard after having witnessed all the great things He did. Imagine Peter’s thoughts ‘ How could it be? Could it even be possible for someone like me?’
Off course the Master did so many great and awesome things. Peter was totally in awe of the Lord and all that He did; the miracles, the transfiguration. In fact Peter was the first to believe that Jesus was the Son of God. And now, Jesus was asking Peter to do the same great stuff that He did.
In his mind, Peter’s response would have been like “Whoa, hold on Lord. Me? Are you sure?”
How?
“Hold on and wait on the Father until all the resources required are released from on high.”
Peter obliged.
To be continued….
