A daily dose of God’s touch in a minute…
King Ahab and his wife jezebel were after the great Prophet Elijah’s life, Elijah fled where the ravens fed him and he drank from the brook, after a while the brook dried up and now God told him to go to a place called Zarephath where a widow would be giving him food ‘Yes! at last normal food, no more ravens’ when he reached zarephath and asked the widow for food, she told him it was the last meal she has for her and her son before they die to avoid famine and starvation in the land.
Could it get any worse? first God says the ravens will feed and now He recommends food from a widow who is getting ready for a suicide to avoid starvation ‘not really funny’ this feeding plan seemed to be going from bad to worse even hopeless, but; only a man of God knows the miraculous power in God’s word so Elijah obeyed and asked the woman to serve him first and said
“For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land. She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah.
1 kings 17: 14 -16 (NIV)
The lady saw the miracle and saw that there was no reason to quit.
Prophet Elijah performed many more miracles with God’s help but despite all the miracles, when jezebel threatened again he ran for his life and himself decided to call it quits.
while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”
1 kings 19: 4 (NIV)
But God is a wise God, He knows that one more miracle is all it takes to stop someone from quitting and if another miracle (God is never short of them)is what it takes to ask a man of God to stop quitting, He was ready to do it.
The lord convinced Elijah ‘Go back the way you came’ probably trying to paraphase ‘Never say quit’
God assured Elijah that He would bring trouble over those who trouble him and Elijah saw king Ahab die and Ahab’s household and jezebel his wife being destroyed according to God’s assurance and so the enemy had no control over the man of God.
